Some info about the Volvo XC-90:
The Volvo XC90 is based on the P2 structure, shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other big Volvo cars.At its introduction for the 2003 model year, it was available with a choice of two trim levels, the 2.5T and the T6.
The 2.5T was the entry level type and offered a 2.5L 20 valve turbocharged engine, capable of 210 hp.
A Yamaha V8 engine was fitted in 2005. This 4.4L V8 engine produced 292 hp for the first few cars, and later
it was upgraded to 311 hp for more power. As with all Volvo cars, the car's safety is an important aspect of its
construction. The Volvo XC90's front end is specifically created to absorb any violent frontal impacts.
The XC90's roof is reinforced with ultra high strength steel to prevent a collapse in the passenger place in case
the car is roll over. The Volvo XC90 has been built on the rear end to absorb impact energy, and the passangers
are also protected by a whiplash protection system. This Volvo WHIPS system cradles the entire body of the
occupants during a rear end impact.
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the XC90 their Top Safety award. The industry-first Roll Stability
Control was first appeared on the XC90.
As with many cars, the XC90 also had some problems, one of them being big enough - Many owners of the T6
variant reported very early transmission failures, many before 60,000 miles. Some owners went even through two
transmissions change in that time. There was not an official recall for this problem, but the faults are well known
and documented all over the world.
