Some info about the Jeep Liberty:
Presented for the 2002 model year as a substitute for the Jeep Cherokee XJ, the Liberty was placed betweenthe Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. It was the smallest of the Jeep SUVs until Compass and Patriot arrived in
2007. The Liberty has a unibody-construction.
All cars were made available with either 2WD or 4WD. Jeep Liberty was the first Jeep to use PowerTech
engines; the 2.4L straight-4 and the 210 3.7L V6. The Liberty was also the first car from Jeep to use rack
and pinion steering system.
It was available with both part time Command-Trac or full time Selec-Trac transfer case. The 2008 Liberty
received a complete redesign with a boxy kind look and off-road design, similar with the Dodge Nitro.
The iron-block, aluminum-head V6 was the only engine available for the 2008 model year. Jeep discontinued
the Liberty diesel engine for the USA market because has not meet meet the 2007 emissions standards for
diesel combustion technology.
