Brief History of Maserati Cars:
The Maserati brothers: Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, and Ernesto - were involved in the car industry since thebeginning of the 20th century. Alfieri, Bindo and Ernesto produced Grand Prix cars for Diatto. In 1926, Diatto
halted the manufacturing of race cars, resulting to the creation of the first Maserati car.
Another Maserati brother, Mario, is believed to have devised the company's logo, based on one the Fontana
del Nettuno from Bologna. Alfieri Maserati died in 1932, but the remaining brothers, Bindo, Ernesto and Ettore,
continued to sustain the company, producing cars that won many races and awards.
Important people joined the team. Alberto Massimino, a key Fiat engineer, with working experience from both
Alfa Romeo and Ferrari, and with his help Maserati started to produce racing car models for the next 10 years.
The Argentinian racing driver Juan-Manuel Fangio drove for Maserati for a few years in the 1950s, obtaining
lots of amazing victories including winning the world championship in 1957 racing in the Maserati 250F.
Maserati had drawn from factory racing because of the Guidizzolo tragedy, but they continued to produce
and sell cars for privateers. After 1957, Maserati became interested to produce road cars, and engineer Giulio
Alfieri designed the 6-cylinder 3500 coupe.
Next car was the Vignale-bodied Sebring, introduced in 1962, the Maserati Mistral Coupe in 1963 and
the Spider model in 1964, styled by Pietro Frua. In 1963, the company built its first 4-door car model,
the Quattroporte. The 2-seat Ghibli coupe car was introduced in 1967, followed by a convertible model
in 1969.
