Brief History of Lamborghini Cars:Automobili Lamborghini was founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini, a child born in Province of Ferrara, in the
Emilia-Romagna region of Northern Italy.
After working as a mechanic for the Regia Aeronautica, during WWII, Lamborghini produced tractors out of
leftover military equipment from the war. By the mid-1950s, Lamborghini's tractor company had become one
of the biggest agricultural vehicle manufacturers in Italy. Lamborghini was also the owner of a gas heater and
air conditioning company.
Lamborghini's family wealth allowed him to cultivate interest in cars since an early age, having some expensive
automobiles including Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati and Benz. He got his first Ferrari car, a 250GT, in 1958,
and then purchased some more. Lamborghini liked so much Ferraris, but considered them too noisy to be
perfect road cars.
Lamborghini went into an automobile manufacturing venture, with the ambition of developing his idea of a
perfect car. Prior to create his company, Lamborghini had paid Società Autostar to build a V12 engine to be
fitted in his new cars. Lamborghini wanted the engine to be created only for road use. The first Lamborghini
car design was created by Gian Paolo Dallara of Ferrari and Maserati fame.
The Lamborghini 350GTV was designed and manufactured in only four months, in time for an October
introduction at the 1963 Turin Motor Show. Because of some disagreement with engine developer Giotto
Bizzarrini, a working engine was not available for the car in time for the show. The car still went on display
but without an engine under the hood.
Despite the favorable reviews of the 350GTV, Ferruccio Lamborghini decided to restyle the car for production.
The production model was redesigned by Carrozzeria Touring, and a new chassis for the car was built in-house.
Bizzarrini's powerful V12 engine was downgraded for production, obtaining only 280 hp out of 360 bhp.
The final design was presented at the 1964 Geneva Motor Show, once again receiving positive reviews
Production began shortly afterwards, and by the end of the year, 13 cars had been produced;
Lamborghini sold every car at a loss in order to keep purchase prices competitive with Ferrari cars.
The 350GT remained in production for another two years, with a total of 120 cars sold.
